Jackass: Best and Last may not be the official farewell.
The Jackass franchise evolved from the DIY tapes and a series on MTV into a major movie series that’s generated over half a billion globally at the box office across five movies. The franchise has 26 years of slapstick comedy filled with jaw-dropping stunts, dangerous pranks, and a group of genuine friendships shown in a reality-style format. Jackass is officially over after nearly three decades, but the cast may want to stick together.

In a red carpet interview with ScreenRant‘s Ash Crossan for Jackass: Best and Last, some of the Jackass cast spoke about the ending of the franchise, and what could be next for each of them. However, a major revelation reveals that a lot of the cast don’t believe this is the final farewell, as creator Johnny Knoxville states he already has plans for a reunion in the future. Dave England, one of the original stars of the series, is certainly not buying the Best and Last in the movie’s title:
ScreenRant: It’s Jackass: Best and Last. I refuse to believe that, but what were the conversations about that like? And do you think it’s true?
Dave England: Oh, my God, I’m so sick of them saying that. I put money on it. We’ve got at least four more in the pipe. Why not? I mean, what else are we supposed to do? I don’t know, but I’m calling bulls–t. I think we’ll do more. That’s my own personal opinion, but I feel it very strongly. We’re like those bands that say it’s their final tour.
Preston Lacy: They said that on the first one. The very first movie, they said, “This will be the only movie we ever make.” And we never thought for a second there would be a second movie. So, every one is like that! We get the call, and we’re like, “Wow, I can’t believe it.”
It’s a mixture of luck, and then also, you’ve got to go do it. You’ve got to go do the stunts! I’ve been here since day one, and I’m not going anywhere.
Ehren McGhehey: I think this is probably our last movie in this format. I know Knoxville is kind of to the point where he can’t damage his brain anymore. I’m to the point where, literally, I’ve had 28 surgeries. I’ve broken my neck three times and had 12 knee surgeries. Mentally, it’s just so taxing to know that you’re going to go have to purposefully step on a pink grenade and explode. You never know!
So, I would say it’s probably our last one. It’s not our last project together, but maybe our last Jackass in this format. I’m sorry to disappoint everybody!
Jeff Tremaine: It is the last one. I might’ve said it after the first movie, and I learned to never say that again once we did a second movie, but this truly is the last one. And it was funny that we decided to do it before we committed to it being the last one. We kind of got started before we really realized, “Actually, you know what? This is the last one. Let’s get back together and enjoy that.” It was halfway into the shoot that we embraced that this was it.

With the constant debate looming over the cast’s heads, Knoxville revealed that while Jackass has officially ended, he won’t abandon his friends and fellow cast mates as he already has concocted ideas for a spinoff, which would feature the cast in more challenges.
ScreenRant: Do you think it’s possible that you guys could get a differently-named spinoff, and would you want to do that?
Johnny Knoxville: We will do something else together, for sure. We’ll do another movie together, but it won’t be Jackass. I’ve always wanted to do a heist movie with this group. Because if anyone would be the worst at pulling off a heist, it would be us.
Zach “Zackass” Holmes: I would definitely be down to do that. I’m always down to do that kind of stuff. I love doing stupid stuff, so that would be fun. But as of right now, I haven’t heard anything about that. I would be into that, though.
Steve-O: Knoxville feels pretty determined to find some outlet for us, which is great. I love it. I think there’s also inevitably going to be some kind of docuseries that really goes deep behind the scenes and tells the story of the franchise in a way that the films haven’t. Regardless, I’m going to keep doing dumb stuff under my own banner.
Ehren McGhehey: Actually, I will say this. I had this idea. What if we dressed up as young people in our 70s instead of what we did in the first movie, where we dressed up as old people in the ending? What if we dress up when we’re actually 70, and then put our young makeup on and go out and act like we’re young? I don’t know, we’ll see what happens. It’s a good idea, right? The only mission is to make it that long.
Jeff Tremaine: I don’t want to redo the Jackass formula, but we have such an exceptional group of guys that doing something different with them would be great. This might not be the end of the group together. It just is the end of Jackass, as far as the format [goes].
A heist movie would certainly be a way to reunite the Jackass crew without returning to wildly dangerous stunts and pranks. With a lot of the characters beloved for their fearless approach to life-threatening situations, age is a number that is unfortunately unavoidable. The main cast are aged between 49 and 56, meaning the stuff that was done and shown over 26 years isn’t as possible for them now.
McGhehey said it bet when he mentioned that “I’ve had 28 surgeries. I’ve broken my neck three times and had 12 knee surgeries,” which is certainly a lot tougher to recover from as you age. However, Knoxville’s plans certainly give hope for fans of the franchise who aren’t necessarily thrilled by the end of Jackass after such a long time.
The Jackass franchise may reach an end, but the group of wild and wacky friends will certainly return on people’s TVs and maybe in theaters with just a whole new set of challenges.
Jackass: Best and Last is in theaters now.
