Tangled is bringing back a fan-favorite character.
Disney’s live-action remakes have been extremely controversial for the studio. While some have been successful, such as Aladdin, Lilo & Stitch, and Beauty and the Beast, others have not managed to recapture the magic of their predecessors. One of the most recent movies was Snow White, which was a major box-office flop and lost the studio $170 million. With more remakes planned, all eyes are on what’s next for the future of Disney.
A new leaked set video from Disney’s live-action remake of Tangled reveals the return of the feisty palace horse Maximus. The set video shows real-life horses on set, as well as a crew member using a puppet horse and the outlines of Corona’s castle. Maximus is definitely a fan-favorite character for many and is frenemies with Rapunzel’s love interest, Flynn Rider, whom he’s hellbent on capturing after Flynn stole Rapunzel’s crown.
It was announced that filming would be taking place at Ciudad de la Luz Studios in Alicante after the president of the Generalitat Valenciana, Juanfran Perez Llorca, confirmed the news through negotiations that took place over six months. Disney star Milo Manheim will be portraying the lovable rogue Flynn Rider, and his mother and fellow actress Camryn Manheim shared several images of her set visit with her son and the cast of the upcoming live-action remake.
Australian actress Teagan Croft has been cast as the leading lady Rapunzel and is known for her role as Raven in Titans. A fan-favorite MCU star Kathryn Hahn, known for WandaVision and Agatha Harkness, has taken on the role as Mother Gothel. Diego Luna, known for Andor, has also been cast in an undisclosed role made specifically for the upcoming movie.
Tangled‘s screenplay is being handled by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (known for Do Revenge) and Michael Montemayor. The Greatest Showman director Michael Gracey will be directing the live-action remake.
Tangled isn’t the only live-action remake coming from Disney Studios, as Moana is getting the live-action treatment with a new release set to come to theaters on July 10. After its stellar box office performance, Lilo & Stitch 2 has also been announced for May 26, 2028, with reports of a remake of Hercules also in the works.
At the time of writing, there is no official release date for the live-action Tangled movie, but with production under way, it won’t be long until the magic will arrive in theaters.
